In U.S companies, the doctrine has allowed them to retain their existing workers while maintaining at will employment, but job losses have not been reduced, and the labor market needs to be stronger. Non-U. S companies responded to the recession by implementing layoffs and wage cuts, which has caused job losses. But because they use contract labor instead of at-will employment, they have been able to prevent layoffs and have been able to replace workers lost to other U.S. businesses. Thus, U.S. unemployment has stayed the same as in other nations. Still, the employment-at-will doctrine has caused the U.S. economy to fail to recover completely, and the global economy has failed to retrieve as quickly (Varner & Schmidt, 2022).
As long as there has been a U.S. economy, people have complained about the lack of jobs in America. For this reason, there has been a constant need to create and improve employment in the US (Jackson, 2021). There are many possible reasons for this problem, such as the fact that there are some people who do not value work or there are some people who do not know how to make an effort. Because of this, the number of unemployed people has increased.
The UK is experiencing a crisis where thousands of workers have been made redundant. Companies that have tried to avoid the redundancy of their employees have been attacked by their employees. Thus, the employee becomes a part of the problem. But in contrast, U.S. companies will be forced to give wage cuts; instead of cutting the company’s headcount, they cut the headcount of the employees (Varner & Schmidt, 2022).
The global economy impacts jobs and employment in the U.S. and the rest of the world. Some companies have used employment-at-will as a strategy to retain their existing workers, while maintaining at-will employment. This has resulted in a weak economic recovery and has prevented layoffs from affecting the employment-at-will businesses and the unemployment rate. But other companies have responded by implementing layoffs and wage cuts. In a global recession, there are different ways to keep the same amount of business, but the companies implementing layoffs and wage cuts will have fewer customers.
