Insights into MBTI and Big Five Models

MBTI test which is a personality test. MBTI is a Myers-Briggs type indicator. This test can be defined as a self-help assessment. This test aims to identify the personality type, preferences and strengths of the person taking the test (Cherry, 2022). The big five Model is a personality test which consists of openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism (Darby, 2023).

The result of MBTI depicts that my personality is more introverted, more intuitive, more thinking, and more judging. It means that I enjoy being in my own company and get recharged after spending time alone. I pay more intention towards Intuition which means I think about abstract theories and possibilities. I prefer to give more importance to facts and data gathered from the intuitions. Judging denotes that my personality is more prefers to make firm and structured decisions (Truity, 2023a). The scoring of the big five models depicts openness at 77% which denotes creativity, conscientiousness at 77% which denotes organized personality, extraversion at 42% which denotes introverted personality, agreeableness at 67% which denotes a deal of empathy and neuroticism at 44% which denotes less fear or negative emotions experienced by the personality (Truity, 2023b).

The websites which provide knowledge on the topic called emotions at the Workplace are Quantum Workplace (Stange, 2021), Forbes (Lau, 2020), Libraries (Libraries, n.d), Harvard Business Review (Barsade & O’Neill, 2016) and Mindtools (Mind Tools, 2023).

According to the different websites, emotions are some feelings which are always displayed even in workplaces. A website defines various negative and positive emotions which are experienced by employees at the workplace. These are feeling comfortable, stressed out, frustrated, satisfied, enthusiastic and anxious. The research which is conducted by Quantum Workplace defines the top three emotions which are the emotions experienced the most at the workplace. These emotions are a sense of comfort, satisfaction and enthusiasm. It also defines the top three negative emotions which are frustration, stress, and anxiety. The website of libraries explains the connection between attitude, emotions and behaviours at work with the help of a theory called the Affective events theory(AET). This website defines six kinds of emotions at work which are love, joy, sadness, surprise, fear and anger. The occurrence of any kind of emotion depends on the happening of specific events. Harvard Business Review says that the research depicts that emotional culture influences teamwork, employee satisfaction and burnout. Mind tools define Fisher’s research as how employees experience negative emotions at the workplace. The main emotions which are encountered by the employees are worry, frustration, anger, disappointment and dislike. The website has provided various situations where employees face such emotions.

This paper provides a review of the two personality tests which were conducted to understand the personality type. The other part of this paper is dedicated to understanding what emotions are displayed in the workplace. It also confirms that different websites agree that emotions affect the work life of an employee.
