There are several measures which can be adopted to maintain food safety, these are described below. There are about 5-6 steps which need to be followed and these are mentioned below.
The hands and the surface need to be cleaned properly before proceeding with food preparation. Germs that lead to food poisoning can survive in several places and also it can spread around the kitchen. All the fruits and vegetables need to be rinsed adequately. The next step is to separate all the items such as raw meat, poultry, eggs, chicken, and seafood which spread germs. This prevents cross-contamination, the raw meat should be cut on board so it is contamination free (Fung et al., 2018).The food item should be cooked at the right temperature, the internal temperature of the food is likely to kill the germs which can make one sick. A food thermometer should be used to ensure that the food is cooked at a safe internal temperature. Food should be microwaved safely, and all the guidelines should be followed. The last step is to refrigerate the food adequately, the bacteria rapidly multiply at room temperature, hence, food should be refrigerated. The perishable food item should be refrigerated adequately, within 2 hours. If the food is exposed to a temperature above 90 degrees Fahrenheit then it will spoil (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023).
