In the case study, the nurse who was enrolled for the night shift seems to be mean towards the patient Mr Stevens. Hearing the conversation will make me able to understand what is the reason for the lies that are leading to the gap in quality care. Making a note of the incident was the first step that makes me able to take action. Second, is an observation of the nurses by which her action can be better understood. Lastly, discuss the situation with the placement nurse by which future incidence is going to be managed or controlled.
Making the nurse recall the ethical and moral responsibilities toward the patient. Ethical values are important for any healthcare provider. It will be focusing on the recognition of the best practices that need to be provided. A nurse has to ensure that they maintain dignity and integrity while participating in care and work (Haahr et al., 2020). Secondly, for a nurse, a patient should be the first and primary concern present. Any conflict of interest need not hamper the quality of care provided to the patient. For that nurses has to ensure collaboration with the internal and external team that is enhancing the quality of the patient outcomes. Promotion of advocacy to protect the right, health and safety; will comprise of measurement of progress and delivery of care according to the code of conduct (Stievano & Tschudin 2019). Lastly, a continuous professional development session needs to be conducted that helps the nurse to be more inclined toward the practices.
The reason for action comprises making nurses aware of the fundamental role that will eliminate the chances of errors. Christina needs to understand that her action is resulting in the deterioration of the condition of the patient. Also, to avoid such practices in the future important to provide awareness about the ethical guidelines. All the action was taken in aspects of ethical principles that ensure that the patient is getting the right amount of care. Beneficence is the one aspect that is taking the act of kindness and connotations (Pesut et al., 2019). Second is non-maleficence which is about not harming the patient. In the case of Mr Steven, Christina needs to understand that the behaviour she is showing and managing the patient is not right. It is resulting in an adverse impact on the patient due to which he is facing issues in sleeping and other things were getting worse. Autonomy in nursing is defined as the nurse's ability to apply professional knowledge and experiences to patient care and make clinical decisions (Karlsson & Pennbrant, 2020). All these facts were considered before decision-making that benefit Mr Steven. It will help Mr Steven to recover early and Christina to fulfil her duties. It helps in the best behaviour at the end of Christina. In addition, it ensures that the ethical aspects will be incorporated in decision-making by which the nursing standard and care can be provided.
