Mothers faced mental problems and fathers resorted to alcohol as their lives held no meaning.

The policy of Assimilation Decisions of Commonwealth and State Ministers at the Native Welfare Conference, Canberra, January 26th and 27th, 1961

The policy document states about assimilation which means how the Australian government has a perception in distinguishing between indigenous and non-indigenous people residing in Australia. The purpose of the policy document was to create harmony and peace in between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people and create one community. All people should have equal rights and privileges and accept the equality status of all people. Policy mentions that any special treatment or measures granted for any Australian resident, be it indigenous or non-indigenous resident would be

Temporarily and should not be on the basis of gender, race or colour. Special privileges treatment or grants should only be given or assisted as a matter to protect from the ill effects and support in the sudden changes to create a transition from one stage to another. The perspective of the policy was to support harmony and create an equal environment for the future sustainability factors in the social, economic and political environment. The policy states that the House honours welfare services, social and sporting activities or an extension of services should be equal for all the residents of Australia who are granted citizenship and remain part of Australia.

Book Chapter

Behrendt, L. (2021) Indigenous Australia for Dummies. 2nd Ed. Ch. 7 Pushing the boundaries of the colony. 99-121

The author in the book “Indigenous Australia for Dummies” states that the colonisation of Australia and the growing colonization of Europeans in Australia has caused a series of havoc in the peaceful settlement of the First Nation people. Not only Indigenous people have faced forceful dispossession from their land, but were also their children were also taken away from them, causing cultural and heritage destruction. The author states that the European settlement started with the outbreak of Chicken Pox disease causing widespread spread among Aboriginal people who had a compromised immunity leading to falling sick and dying. Eventually, Europeans started with the forceful separation of children from their Indigenous parents and killed many indigenous settlers during their settlement in different states of Australia. The author states how the growing settlement of Europeans in the distinct places of Australia like NSW, Victoria, QLD, Adelaide, WA, NT and Tasmania show an increase in the population of the whites and the nonexistence of the Aboriginal people. The author states how the growing White people civilization has caused increased massacres of Indigenous people as they have resisted giving their land known for its sacred values. Loss of traditions, language and cultural status has notably been seen to vanish among Indigenous people and children.
