National Immunisation Program (NIP)

The NIP gives the details regarding the recommended vaccinations and the timing of their administration for various age groups and was launched in 1997 (1). To reduce diseases that can be prevented by vaccination, the National Immunisation Programme seeks to boost immunization rates across the country. The schedule is set out according to age groupings from infancy through childhood and maturity. Particular vaccines are advised for each age group at each stage of life (2).

Herd immunity- Long term outcome of such a program can be the prevalence of herd immunity which may prevent the individual's problem dreadful diseases (5).

Eradication of diseases- A very prominent outcome of such a program can be the complete eradication of the disease from the population and hence improving general public health.
