The aim of the work is to provide a reflective analysis on the various topics learned in the classroom and how they are relevant to me. The analysis is also connected with my past experience to understand the relevance of theories in the practical world. The structure of the work includes analysis of different theoretical concepts which include the nature of the organisations, the role of management and challenges, motivation, influence and power and politics, and communication, conflict and negotiation.
The nature of organizations depends on whether they are profit-seeking or non-profit seeking set-ups. Profit-seeking companies provide goods and services to customers in exchange for money. Thus, both the organization and the customers get value in return for something. In non-profit seeking organizations, goods and services are provided without earning any profit from the customers.
The roles of management are interpersonal, decisional, and informational. The challenges faced in an organization include uncertainty about the future, pressure from peers and competitors, time management, implementing policies effectively, adhering to industry norms, communication issues, and financial management (Rothaermel, 2013). All these are important aspects that must be understood by a manager, management, and the organization.
This topic is of great significance because understanding these concepts helps in the practical corporate world. In my past experience, the organization was a profit-seeking organization, and the management played its role effectively. Certain challenges faced in the organization included not meeting financial goals, communication gaps, and interpersonal conflicts among the staff. From the content, I have learned that management in different organizations differs, and management plays a great role in overcoming difficulties and achieving goals. This learning will prove helpful in the future workplace.
Motivation is the reason due to which people behave, act, or are willing to act in a particular manner. In the context of an organization, motivation is important to achieve employee satisfaction and organizational objectives.
Influence is the capability to impact the behaviour, character, or action of someone with the objective of achieving a purpose. It is important to control the influencing power of people in the organization so that adverse impacts can be controlled and actions facilitated in the right direction.
Politics is often the result of power but can also occur due to favouritism and biases in the organization. Power is relevant in an organization because it determines the flow of decision-making (Lazaroiu, 2015). Moreover, it is important to understand how power can lead to politics in the company.
These concepts are relevant for me so that I can understand how they work in the context of a company. Moreover, I will also need to implement these concepts in the workplace, making their understanding imperative. In my past experience, I was motivated to work because the organization provided benefits and opportunities that kept me motivated. I have learned that motivation is essential in every aspect of life, whether personal, professional, or workplace-related. Power and politics should also be dealt with effectively to work positively in the workplace (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2017).
Communication refers to both verbal and non-verbal forms of interaction. It involves exchanging data and information from one place or person to another. Communication is one of the most significant aspects of organizational success and employee satisfaction (Spaho, 2013).
This topic helps me understand the importance of communication and motivates me to improve my communication skills. In my past experience, my communication skills were not as effective as required in the organization. I have learned that communication is one of the most significant skills required in an organizational set-up. This skill can determine the success or failure of a person’s career, and thus, before entering the corporate world, I must work on this area.
It can be concluded that the topics learned in the syllabus are significant in all areas of life, including personal, professional, and educational life. The topics studied in the course are also linked with my past experience. The combination of learning modules and past experience will prove helpful in the future workplace.
