- Literature Review
A literature review gives an overview of what has been said on a topic, what the theories
/hypotheses are, what methodologies are being used, and how ideas are different or similar to your theories.
Conduct a literature review to develop a summary of existing research related to your topic (three journals must be researched and included in your bibliography, One of these journals must be attached to your submission with relevant paragraph/s highlighted in highlighter pen). http

- Methodology and Data Collection
- Describe the methodology you have chosen for you research proposal and why
this method was selected. Identify your data collection method erg intervie
w/questionnaire and justify why you have chosen this method. Attach (as an appendix) your research questions. Describe the subjects of your research.
- Ethics Approval
Research procedures must adhere to professional, legal and social obligations.
Decide if your research proposal requires ethics approval.
Justify why/why not ethics approval is required. Discuss how you obtained ethics approval.
- Research Schedule
Evaluate how long the period of research will continue. Will funding be required? Why/why not?
- Validation, Reliability and Evaluation
Research findings must be validated and reliable.
Reliability means that any significant results must be repeatable with the same results achieved by other researchers working under the same conditions.
Validity refers to how accurately the study measures what it is intended to measure. Can it represent accurate and well-founded information? For example, who is analysing data and are they qualified to do so?
Discuss if your research proposal demonstrates reliability. Explain how your research results can be validated to ensure the results are accurate and usable.
- Data Analysis
Raw data must be converted into a useful format for users.
After analysis of your findings, convert the data into a useful format, e.g pie chart
/graph/table. You need to provide a graphic representation for this response. Discuss the results of your research findings. Identify suggestions that could be made for future research into your topic.
- Barriers to Research
Barriers to research must be identified and discussed
Identify barriers that may have affected your research
/research results. Discuss how these barriers could be reduced.
- Sharing of research finding
Research findings can be implemented to positively enhance or change clinical practice.
How could you share the findings from your research? Do your research findings have any implications for nursing practice? Explain.

Research statement
The topic on fast foods is chosen because in the modern times, the issue of what people eat is attracting a lot of attention as it has a strong positive correlation with public health. The research findings on the same indicate that the fast food is affecting the human health. Despite the findings of the negative impacts of fast food, little has been done to change the consumption pattern both at the individual and society level (Lustig, Schmidt & Brindis, 2012).
Literature review
Introduction
Food is among the basic human needs. Human beings must consume food for healthy body status and survival. In the modern days there has been technological advancements which have led to increased processing (Bagozzi et al., 2014). As a result of changes in lifestyle, for example, increased urbanization and increased affluence especially among the middle class in many parts of the world, the majority of the people do not take time to choose what they consume (Basu et al., 2014). Changes in lifestyle, increased affluence, advertisements and globalization are among the major issues that have caused the increased consumption of fast food. The consumption of the fast food also referred to as junk food, has been found to contain high calories that causes health problems to the consumer (Powell & Nguyen, 2013).
Method of study
The study will adopt a case study approach as is the best method in the tackling specific issues in the field of health (Labadarios, et al, 2015). The use of the method is important as both the qualitative and quantitative data will be collected and synthesized to reach a justifiable conclusion (Labadarios et al., 2015).
Research objectives
- To investigate the rate of consumption of fast food among members of the society as compared to other types of food.
- To assess if there are effects of fast food consumption on the human health.
Research Hypothesis
- There is no significant difference in consumption of fast food among members of the society as compared to other types of food.
- The is no significant association between consumption of fast food and negative effects on human health.
Consumption of Fast Food
The human body requires a certain amount of proteins, carbohydrates and fats (Basu et al., 2014). Excessive consumption either of these requirements affects the normal body functioning as more energy is required to help eliminate what is not needed by the body. On the other hand, insufficient consumption of either proteins, carbohydrates or fats also affects the body functioning, which in extreme cases can lead to illnesses (Powell & Nguyen, 2013). In the contemporary world, despite the continued research finding of the many challenges associated with consumption of unhealthy diet commonly referred as junk food, little has been done to reduce the high consumption of the fast food (Labadarios et al., 2015).
At the present time the readily available and easily available to the majority of the people is the fast food (Basu et al., 2014). The fast food contains high amount of calories and lack the nutritious basic micronutrients.. The fast food majorly contains refined sugars and white flour while it lacks the vital elements, including minerals, proteins, vitamins and fiber. Yet the food contains little or no enzyme producing minerals and vitamins instead, this is replaced by high calorie content (Labadarios et al., 2015).
The Health Impacts of Fast Foods
The normal and proper functioning of the human body is facilitated by the availability of all required nutritional elements in the essential amounts (Lang & Heasman, 2015). Provision of the food elements that is proteins, fats or carbohydrates in an insufficient or excessive amount is unhealthy to the human body. Research has indicated that the quality of life is highly affected by fast food consumption among groups of people especially the affluent. Illnesses like cancer, obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases are associated with over nutrition (Lustig, Schmidt & Brindis, 2012). The reduction in reproductive capacity of a human being has been identified as a problem brought about by over nutrition resulting from junk food consumption (Labadarios et al., 2015).
. The consumption of fast food brings about the problem of over nutrition and under nutrition, as these foods contain insufficient amounts of some and also an excessive amount of the vital nutrients (Lustig, Schmidt, & Brindis, 2012). The fast foods weaken the human immune system. This makes an individual vulnerable to diseases, as the body defense system against diseases is weakened from lack of the essential nutrients. On the other hand, excessive nutrition by fast food consumption may lead to too much immunity, which is unhealthy (Powell, & Nguyen, 2013). The reason being too much immunity may lead to metabolic syndromes, inflammation and autoimmune diseases. In conclusion the research on the topic is of significance because people can only be productive when they are in good health. This is the only way of ensuring that the current and future generations are productive. This unhealthy fast food should avoid at all cost.
Ethics approval
The study will obtain the ethical approval from a Research Institute. Further informed consent will be obtained from all the participants sampled before data collection process.
Research schedule
The research will take approximately three months. This will facilitate the organization and a detailed data collection not forgetting the analysis of the findings. To carry out all these processes the study will require funding to facilitate dependable result.
Validation, reliability and evaluation
All the procedures to be adopted in the process of data collection, analysis and presentation will be clearly stated. Data collection will be carried out by trained research assistants while the analysis will be done by a qualified data analyst.
Data analysis
The primary data collected from the field will be analyzed by use of statistical package software SPSS. This will enable validation or rejection of the research hypotheses. The result will be presented by the use of pie charts and bar graphs developed by Microsoft excel.
Barrier to research
The study may face a challenge of unresponsive respondents during primary data collection process. This will be overcome by ensuring the likely number of uncooperative responded is taken care by replacement with the cooperative respondent.
Sharing of the research findings.
The result obtained from the field research study will be of great significance as new knowledge will be added to the field. The result will be considered during the decision making, all the stakeholders in the field of clinical nursing.
