Media landscape refers to the platforms through which people can access news and other sources of entertainment. The media landscape has been changed drastically in comparison to the previous decade the conventional media houses (Mooney, Burdon, & Kang, 2018). The Australian media houses are trying their level best to keep fighting with new unconventional media platforms such as Netflix and YouTube. The Australian governments are also trying to help the media houses by removing some policies from this particular industry, but this has only led to cannibalism in the conventional media houses like the big business in the industry are trying to prey on the smaller business because of which the smaller businesses have to shut down.
Media ownership refers to the person or the organization that governs the media and the content that should be portrayed to the people watching their respected station. Australian media ownership is divided into three categories namely, the private organization, the community and the government.
The Australian government is responsible for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation along with Special Broadcasting Corporation (ABC Australia, 2020).
Some of the television and radiofrequency have been provided by the government to the community media organization. Most of their contents are created by volunteers that are generally not paid.
These sectors of the media are owned by private organizations. The main purpose of this organization is to boost sales along with generating profits
The report identified the different problems that are being faced by the convention media houses from new platforms and how the Australian government is trying to help them in these hard times. It was also observed that there are multiple stakeholders of media, such as the government, private organization, and community and how each stakeholder has their different agendas.
