compared to neighbouring countries.

the key contributors for dental carriers’ reduction
Slide 5
The threats for the Iraqi Health System include:
- Many people are engaged in 9-to-5 jobs and sit in front of computers for long hours, they tend to eat junk and unhealthy food items which are harmful for the teeth and the body.
- People, particularly kids in the age group 12-16 years have no knowledge about rinsing their mouth after meals and using fluoride-based toothpaste
Slide 6
As per the SWOT analysis, it can be inferred that there is a dire need to develop an effective oral health
strategy which focuses on the needs of the Iraqi people and their dental problems.
Slide 7
As far as the oral health system of Iraq is concerned, dental caries should be the priority area for action
and must be curbed at the earliest. The oral health of people in Iraq is poor and this poor health state is
detrimental for Iraqi, especially children as it tremendously affects their growth, nutrition, as well as
their development.
Slide 8
In order to cope with the threats and weaknesses, an oral health startegy is developed. The goal of the
oral health strategy is to take preventive and restorative efforts for the Iraqi oral health system. The
objective of the oral health strategy is to take the concern of implementation of a community based oral
health promotion programme. The target audience for the oral health strategy is Iraqi kids in the age
group of 12-16 years.
Slide 9
The activities undertaken as per the oral health strategy include developing oral hygiene skills among
kids, which include brushing teeth using fluoride toothpaste, flossing etc, minimising the amount of
sugar intake in form of desserts, to fluoridate the drinking water, to enhance the access to dental
sealants, to increase the visits to dentist for regular oral health check-up, to prioritize precautions
instead of cure and to improve the access of dental services for people in rural areas
