Answer 1All the nurses across Australia have to follow standards in professional practice, and these standards vary with the role of the nurse. Registered nurse and practice nurse have different roles to fulfil therefore, to conserve the vitality of their role the standards define their responsibilities. Registered nurse helps in identification of different principles of primary health care and they make sure that these principles are duly integrated into their practice. They are responsible for understanding the health conditions of the country and thus identify the priorities of national importance.
There are several social determinants like age, sex, community that are likely to affect the health of people. It is responsibility of registered nurse to understand these determinants and integrate them while making a nursing plan. Registered nurses are also responsible for identifying the needs and demands of nurses in practice (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Professional standards, 2019). Health care units fail to address the needs of nurses in practice and it is very important that someone should identify their needs. Registered nurses are also responsible for reviewing the current standards that are being set by NMBA for nursing practice. They have responsibility of supervising the enrolled nurses, and use general practice guidelines for training enrolled nurses and also to deliver care services. Another important role of registered nurses is to identify the changes in standards of practice and also ensure its communication to several teams that are responsible for delivering care services. These are the few major roles of the registered nurses in health care units.
Nurses in practice have a bit larger role as compared to the registered nurse. They have the responsibility of identifying and responding immediately to the health needs of the community. They play an important role in case of an outbreak of any disease in local area. They communicate with the local community and address their needs through nursing practice. Nurses in practice have the responsibility to speculate how the guidelines mentioned in the standards can be put to translation and brought into practice while running the health care unit operations. They also help in evaluating what effect does standards bring on the outcome of nursing practice, they also check that the guidelines are effectively meeting needs of local community and their health needs.
They act as a role model to enrolled and registered nurses and also acts as a mentor for training them. They also act as a nursing consultant in special areas of expertise in nursing care and they also take leadership roles for cumulative growth of all the nursing care staff. One very crucial role that nurses in practice have to play is that they seek funding opportunities to support the care services that they deliver in professional space. Practice nurses identify the areas of nursing that are not currently using evidence based practices and they also help in identifying evidences to support the current practice. They have responsibility of accurately interpreting the findings of different diagnostic tests by using different assessment tools that helps in validation of tests (Secretary amp Secretary, 2019).
Answer 4Health is a state in which the physical and mental state of body is fully functional and stable. Registered nurses use this as definition of health while delivering their care services. To be precise, the definition of health is just not a body free of disease but it also comprises the social, mental and physical well-being of a person. The primary health care registered nurses contribute to social and economic development by ensuring that people individually or in groups as a community are participating for taking care of their health. Primary health care services just ensure that they stand at aid to people while they work in maintaining their health. Primary health care definition is disputed but the most accepted definition across Australia is that it is the first level of contact of individual with health care practitioners.
It comprises of several degrees of contact. It consists of personal care and preventing oneself from any illness and also preventing any illness to develop within community (What is primary health care nursing, 2019). It consists of integrating several principles that appreciate collaboration of community with health care professionals for empowering health conditions. In nursing, for registered nurses the primary health care is to collaborate with individuals and community members and deliver care operations according to needs of people. Registered nurses in several settings to perform the work of primary health care
The first setting is community setting where nurses work in a social service setting that is controlled by the community health operators. The second setting they work is in health care units like general ward, emergency ward (General Practice Nurse National Survey Report, 2012). Registered nurses also deliver services in domiciliary setting where they do their work at home. It is mostly done for aged population that cannot move to the health care units and require permanent care due to chronic illness. Registered nurses have a wide variety of roles that they need to understand and integrate into their professional practice. These roles also help them to understand the philosophy of primary health care as they are required to work at different level of operations. Registered nurses are responsible for promoting health among local community people in order to make them aware of the health services that they can avail for betterment of their health conditions (Definition of primary health care nursing, 2012).
They are also entitled to address people over the subject of prevention of illness where they teach people to avoid certain activities in order to prevent themselves from falling sick. Rehabilitation and palliative care is one of the most crucial responsibilities of a registered nurse. Many of the aged care people with chronic illness need rehabilitation to get back to their normal life and in that they learn to do things differently to keep themselves healthy. Palliative care involves the pain management therapy which is required when the patient is suffering from serious illness with various symptoms. Registered nurses also have the responsibility of developing policies in the welfare of public health and they also look for funding so that they can execute those policies.
