In order to critique a scientific article, there are some steps that need to be followed as this helps in critiquing an article in a good manner. The very first step which needs to be considered in collecting basic information. Regardless of the subject of the article which needs to be reviewed, the paper contains some basic information (Krause, 2021). The basic information which should be collected is the title of the article, the title of the journal along with the month, and the date of the article. It is also important to collect the issue statement, research method, purpose, key findings, approach, and hypothesis. While collecting the basic information, one should read the entire article 2 or three times. This helps to provide a general overview of the article. After collecting the information and reading the article, the next step should be writing it down. The steps to be followed are introduction. in this section, one should discuss the issue, review of relevant literature and then should review the hypothesis. After the introduction, the method part should be reviewed. Within the methodology part, one should review the participants chosen by the author in order to carry out the research and along with this the instruments used in the article should also be reviewed. It has been found that the procedures and the design are an important part of the methodology and while critiquing an article, reviewing this part helps a lot in making a sound decision (Sng et al., 2016). Along with reviewing the procedures and the designs, it is equally important to check the sampling made in the article. The results of the article are then reviewed in order to check whether it is valid or not. This part also helps to compare various articles. Results also help to understand whether the author has presented a proper descriptive statistics and it also helps to comprehend that whether the results are logical and clear.
Another step that is significant for completing the critique of a scientific article is to review the ethics of the article it needs to check that whether the article is approved by any university or by any other means as above all it is very important for the article to comply with the ethical principles (Stratfordjournals, 2020). This also helps to govern standards of the conduct for scientific researchers. It is also significant to adhere to ethical principles as this helps to protect the rights, welfare, and dignity of the research participants. After completing all of the steps, lastly, a conclusion should be drawn on its own regarding the positive sides, negative sides, strengths weaknesses, effectiveness and applicability of the scientific research.
