Introduction

There are many issues related to common good and dignity of the human person in accounts profession. One of the most common issues is lack of confidentiality of clients’ information and personal data in professions and business practices. In professions private information is used to a very great extent and this really harms the dignity of a client if confidentiality is not maintained. As a matter of fact private information is not a property of a professional but these belong to clients and without their knowledge it shall not be shared with any individual. Common good suggests that an individual shall not exploit any information for their selfish purposes. Common good, as its name says is something that is beneficial for all the stakeholders and that is always a win-win condition. But this is a common practice in all the professions and especially in accounts that clients’ information is not treated with confidentiality. This practice is harmful for the good of human as it is harmful for clients’ personal life and their dignity and thus it violates common good. To address this issue related to common good and dignity of the human person in accounts profession at present and as well as in future a number it is important to take serious steps. To prevent the selling of clients’ data to other firms I will take strict steps. First of all, all the work will be made in a proper regulatory framework. It will be difficult on the first phase because accountancy requires immense use of information of client but there are various alternatives to it. These days a number of software is there in the market that can be used for extracting accounting information while maintaining secrecy of the data. Thus, introduction of such software will be very helpful along with strict rules and regulations. This software actually work wonder for accounting profession. The software is off course not as easy as manual work to work upon but once an individual learns it then it becomes very easy to work upon. A little training and ability to adapt to change is necessary to work with such devices to retain the privacy and maintain confidentiality. Except for this all the other works at workplace such as emails, memos, reports and other documents of the workplace shall be distributed only internally and any of these documents that contain personal information of the client shall be treated with high confidentiality. This will maintain confidentiality within the organisation. Realisation of common good is very important for every professional and those who are not able to realise common good will suffer later. This will also make the entire human kind suffer later on. This is due to the fact that privacy is an essential part of human kind. It is thus very important to take care of the privacy and confidentiality to maintain the trust. The first step is to observe strict rules for the usage of personal information of any client and secondly to take strict actions against those who do not respect the confidentiality of data of the clients. Business practices and professionals always want to remain competitive and for that they are ready to do anything without realising that they are providing much harm to dignity of clients and at the same time it is against the common good. Accounting as a profession is no exception and it is indulged into above said practices. It is indeed the right of every company to use information of clients only internally and not in a manner as they want. At the same time it is the duty of companies to keep a check and adopt policies and practices that are beneficial for clients’ dignity. Companies are only seeking for such practices that are profitable, no matter how harmful they prove to be for common good. For a better future it is important to adopt client friendly policies. It is also important to adopt those practices that shall be beneficial for common good and dignity of human person in the long run. Thus any professional, be it accounting or something else it is important to keep a check whether it is client friendly or not. This will save common good as well as dignity of human person.
