Description of Voluntary Blood Donation

UNICEF needs to raise funds for the education of young girls in poor communities. They need actionable information about what motivates young professionals around the world to donate to humanitarian organisations. This research project will be used to inform fund raising campaign strategies to be launched online and offline.

Introduction to Voluntary Blood Donation

Education is one of the basic things that improves the all-round development of an individual. It is considered an essential element of human-kind and almost all the countries provide for free education till the age of 14. However, in Asian and middle-eastern countries the illiteracy rate of females is more compared to that of males due to few age-old mind-sets. Moreover, if the female belongs to a poor community then the parents feel that the males should be given priority over the females for education as they would have more scope to get a job and support the family whereas the female child will have to be married off. Parents belonging to poor communities in these countries tend to look at a girl child as a burden.

Background of Voluntary Blood Donation

Individuals belonging to poor communities are not aware of the importance of education as none of their previous generations have received formal education. They way of life has been accepted by them. These communities additionally expect a girl child to learn the ways in which their mothers manage the household and help the female elders in their daily chores till they come of age to be married off. Once these girls are married off, they continue doing their household chores in the new place and teach the same to their female children. To break this vicious cycle, the parents have to be convinced to allow the girl child to get educated and this will ensure that the further generations to come are well-aware of the importance and power that comes with education. UNICEF has taken the unique initiative of accumulating funds by way of donations to provide education to the female children of poor and backward communities.

Aims

It is common knowledge that only well-to-do people can afford to make donations for the betterment of the world. The scheme targets young professionals to donate for the cause as they do not have enough liabilities and the aspect of having an impact on the conditions of the world makes a higher appeal to them. The aims of this paper shall be to point out reasons and causes that persuade the young professionals- who have more than enough money to spend, to make a donation for the cause of providing education to female children of poor communities.

Methodology of Voluntary Blood Donation

The paper shall be based on Qualitative/Doctrinal Research. The relevant material for the paper shall be collected from the primary as well as secondary sources. Qualitative Research is a research that is based on the principles or the propositions made earlier as well as first hand data collected from sources. It is based on the sources like books of the library, and through various websites and data collected personally.

Research Questions

  1. Which category of people among young professionals should be approached to make a contribution for the cause?
  2. What benefits would they expect in return for making the contribution?
  3. What are the reasons that could be used to persuade these categories of people to make a donation?

Hypothesis

The information of how individuals responded to similar schemes which were initiated previously would help the researcher form an image of how to proceed with the topic, but, if a study is made on the statistic available on what kind of people are more prone to making a contribution, it would help get ideas and reasons that might encourage professionals to make a contribution. This information may be assembled from a study of all the previous donation schemes that have been completed by the UNICEF.

Rationale

To discuss in brief, about how the study shall proceed, there are a few causes that motivate young professionals to help others in need based on the particular cause. From the study of previous donations collected by UNICEF, these reasons for motivation come forward. There are more than 150 corporate workers who earn more than $500,000 annually and are under the age of 30. (Opoku, 2013)

  • When questioned about their take on charity and donations, it was discovered that a portion of these ‘very young professionals’ expected returns in lieu of donations. These returns had to be ‘social’ rewards, such as invitations to charity balls and black-tie dinners. (Grant, 2014)
  • A minor population within this section of people agreed to donate for a cause that could have an impact and change the world if tax benefits would be granted on the amount donated. (Akintola, 2011)
  • A section of people voluntarily agreed to donate for major causes for the betterment of the world as they had been direct or indirect victims and had suffered at some point of time in their own lives dur to similar constrains. They want to make sure that other children do not have to go through the hardships that they went through and try to live life again by way of making other peoples’ lives a little easier. (Bjerneld, Lindmark, McSpadden & Garrett, 2006)
  • A significant part of the population wished to donate just because they had seen for themselves what the particular crisis towards which their donation would be used, had an effect on the young minds of the children.

An analysis of all the information obtained shall be done by way of graphs and pie-charts to denote what causes have maximum effect on the professionals and appeal to them on an emotional level and persuade them to make the donation.

Conclusion and Suggestions on Voluntary Blood Donation

At the end of the paper, the researcher shall include the suggestions on how the persuasions that were used earlier can be modified to connect with the new-modern day professionals and make them see how a small donation can change the world. (World Health Organization, 2010)
