Can Food Fraud Be Prevented in Food Supply Chain?

Food fraud can be defined as tampering in the existing material, food ingredients. There are many suppliers those who give misleading statements about the raw material and supply such faulty material to the firms. This completely destroys the quality of end product. One of the major issue related to food fraud is that manufacturer can lose its valuable consumers. There are many companies which are purchasing raw material from the old stable suppliers. These suppliers provide faulty products to the company due to which firm fails to meet quality requirement of buyers (Food Fraud Prevention, 202). This makes them negative and they may turn towards other organisation. In such condition overall profit and market reputation of the manufacturer gets badly affected.

 Faulty food items create financial loss kind of situation for the manufacturer. As company’s sales starts declining due to which firm fails to sustain in market for longer duration. In addition, faulty food items create the situation of food safety as well. This can cause illness to the consumers those who are consuming such low quality products.

In the year 2007, FDA has notified several health issues that are identified in Animals such as dogs and cats because of consuming such faulty food items. There are many suppliers those who were added false impression melamine of high protein in wheat gluten. These suppliers faced huge complication due to selling such faulty products and later on supplier had to make changes in the process of products. In the year 2008, China’s suppliers have added Melamine in the dairy product in order to enhance its market value. When such kind of low quality products are being eaten by human being then it affects their health badly (Chauhan and Singh, 2020).

In order to stop selling such faulty food item there is need to take serious action so that such kinds of illegal activities can be stopped soon. There is need of analytical surveillance. This may help in identifying the quality of raw material before its purchasing. If any issue is found by the manufacturer and Food inspection authority then selling of such items can be restricted. In addition, manufacturer needs to enhance relationship with suppliers so that supplier can sell the right food items to the manufacturer which will help in preventing from the faulty food items.
